01.32 Curtains
English
Curtains
A pair of curtains made from a printed cotton fabric designed by English artist John Piper (1902 – 1993), dating from the 1970’s. Each 115 cm. wide by 210 cm. long.
The fabric from which these lined curtains are made is identical to the fabric panel of ‘Cathedral’ (see 92.01), made by Sanderson and Company in the 1970’s. For this reason, when by chance we saw that they were included in an auction ‘Fine Costumes, Needlework and Textiles’ at the Christies Saleroom in South Kensington on 20th November 2001, sale number 9254, lot 261, we bid for them and were successful.
