Oils on canvas, English, painted by H M Jonas, signed and framed, dating from the 1930’s.  70 cm. high by 56 cm.wide.

We bought this painting at Warwick Antiques, 16/18 High Street, Warwick in June 1994 because of its similarity to a photograph of my father taken at roughly the same time as this picture was painted.  In his twenties my father (born in 1906) was tall, slim and athletic, and he and my mother were regular tennis players (an talent they completely failed to pass on to me!). Here in this painting we have the idealized young English sportsman, born to success and capable of succeeding with effortless grace. Our son was 13 years old at this time, and perhaps this picture represented our (to-be-realized) hopes for him.

Óleo sobre lienzo, inglés, pintado por H M Jonas, firmado y enmarcado, que data de la década de 1930. Mide 70 cm de alto por 56 cm de ancho.

Compramos esta pintura en Warwick Antiques, en High Street 16/18, Warwick, en junio de 1994 debido a su similitud con una fotografía de mi padre tomada aproximadamente al mismo tiempo que se pintó esta imagen. En sus veintes, mi padre (nacido en 1906) era alto, delgado y atlético, y él y mi madre eran jugadores de tenis habituales (¡un talento que no pudieron transmitirme por completo!). Aquí en esta pintura tenemos al joven deportista inglés idealizado, nacido para el éxito y capaz de triunfar con gracia sin esfuerzo. Nuestro hijo tenía 13 años en este momento, y tal vez esta imagen representaba nuestras esperanzas (por realizar) puestas en él.
