84.02 6 Portrait Miniatures

English, artists unknown. Gouache on card/vellum, oval-framed, approximately 6 cm. high by 5cm. wide.

This small collection of portrait miniatures was handed down from Jane’s mother’s side of the family (the Cleavers of Banbury). There is no information as to who the people are, or who painted them, but they can be dated by the costume styles to the early 19th century.  Probably this collection is part of the then (i.e. before photography) equivalent of the family photograph album.

It may not be too fanciful to imagine that in the not too distant future, someone will develop a variant of the facial recognition apps that are already available to enable some or all of these images, assuming that they are good likenesses, to be identified, or from the techniques of the artists to identify the painters.

Número de catálogo 84.02 Inglés, autores desconocidos. Gouache en tarjeta/vitela, con marco ovalado, miden aproximadamente 6 cm de alto por 5 cm de ancho.

Esta pequeña colección de retratos en miniatura la heredamos de la madre de Jane (las Cuchillas de Banbury). No hay información sobre quiénes son las personas, o quién las pintó, pero se pueden fechar a principios del siglo XIX por el estilo del vestuario. Probablemente esta colección sea parte del equivalente (es decir, antes de la fotografía) del álbum fotográfico de la familia. Puede que no sea demasiado descabellado imaginar que en un futuro no muy lejano, alguien desarrollará una variante de las aplicaciones de reconocimiento facial que ya están disponibles para habilitar algunas o todas estas imágenes, suponiendo que son buenas imágenes, para ser identificadas, o de las técnicas de los artistas para identificar a los pintores.
