English

English majolica ware, possibly made by Samuel Lear, dated circa 1880. Each 20 cm. high by 14 cm. wide.

Two cheerful Majolica ware vases, with tin-glazed red necks and bases with a distinctive speckled and textured surface, which possibly identifies them as having been made by Samuel Lear of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent in the 1880’s (compare with 90.02). Both of them have barbotine applied floral decoration.  We bought these from ’The Tao’, 59, Smith Street, Warwick (see again 90.02) in 2005.
