Music Cabinet

A glass fronted mahogany cabinet for sheet music by an unknown maker dating from the late nineteenth century.  91 cm high by 49 cm wide by 42 cm deep.

This piece of domestic furniture, dating from around 1880, was made to provide storage for sheet music at a time when home entertainment often involved playing music, using such instruments as the violin and the piano, and singing.  The design is that of a narrow chest of drawers with five velvet lined shelves, with a glass- fronted door.  Bought from Quinneys Antiques of 9, Church Road, Warwick in June 1998.

Una vitrina de caoba para partituras de un autor desconocido, que data de finales del siglo XIX. Mide 91 cm de alto por 49 cm de ancho por 42 cm de profundidad.

Este mueble doméstico, que data de alrededor de 1880, se fabricó para almacenar partituras en una época en la que el entretenimiento casero a menudo consistía en tocar música, usando instrumentos como el violín o el piano, y cantar.
