A watercolour by English artist Elizabeth Bridge (1912 to 1996), mid-twentieth century, signed and framed, 44 cm. high by 34 cm. Wide.

Elizabeth Bridge was a painter in oil and watercolour of still-life, portraits and landscapes. She trained at the Hornsey School of Art where she won a scholarship when she was 17 years old. She painted in a realistic style and it was her paintings of flower studies where she excelled- painting wonderful studies of flowers with a fresh and vibrant palette. In 1947 she first exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and she went on to exhibit there regularly until 1966.  She was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Institute of Painters in Oil-Colours. She also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Society of Women Artists and she gained an Honourable Mention at the Paris Salon.  We bought this lovely picture from Julie Collino (see 87.04 Peasant woman) in July 1997.

Elizabeth Bridge fue una pintora, al óleo y acuarela, de bodegones, retratos y paisajes. Se formó en la Hornsey School of Art, donde ganó una beca cuando tenía 17 años. Pintó en un estilo realista y destacó en sus pinturas de estudios de flores, pintándolos con una paleta fresca y vibrante. En 1947 expuso por primera vez en la Royal Academy de Londres y continuó exponiendo allí regularmente hasta 1966. Fue miembro del Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours y del Royal Institute of Painters in Oil-Colors. También expuso en la Royal Scottish Academy y la Society of Women Artists y obtuvo una Mención de Honor en el Salón de París.
