French artist Hélèn Rivière, born in 1896 and who died in 1977, is mostly known for her depiction of animals and the natural world. This picture shows a seated lady with a traditional Spanish black lace mantilla on her head. She is wearing a rich red dress with a white lace neck and a pale blue shawl, and has dazzling pearl ear-rings and a large aquamarine broach round her neck. This is another work that we bought in from Julie Collino (see 87.04) in July 1995.

La artista francesa Hélèn Rivière, nacida en 1896 y fallecida en 1977, es conocida principalmente por su representación de animales y del mundo natural. Esta imagen muestra a una dama sentada con una mantilla tradicional española de encaje negro en la cabeza. Lleva un rico vestido rojo con un cuello de encaje blanco y un chal azul pálido, y tiene deslumbrantes pendientes de perlas y un gran broche de aguamarina alrededor del cuello.
