74.08 Peacock pattern

In early 1974, we were living in Field's Court in Warwick, a stylish 1960's high-density housing development designed by architect Arthur Ling. We sold the pretty little cottage in Church Street, Barford, near Warwick, (which Jane's parents had given to her) and used the proceeds to buy "The Mill' at Newbold on Stour, in South Warwickshire (about which there will be much more in due course). And on one of the walls, apparently abandoned by the previous owner, we found this interesting object.
It is a geometrical design of stylised peacocks and foliage, painted in green on white cotton. In the opinion of the Textile Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum (where Jane was now working), this is a simple example of a Madhubani painting, dating from the early to mid 20th century. The paint is made from ground rice with a vegetable dye.

"A principios de 1974, vivíamos en Field's Court, Warwick, una zona elegante con una elevada densidad de viviendas, diseñada en los años 60 por el arquitecto Arthur Ling. Vendimos una bonita casa que teníamos en Church Street, Barford, cerca de Warwick (que los padres de Jane le habían regalado) y utilizamos los ingresos para comprar "The Mill' en Newbold on Stour, en el sur de Warwickshire (sobre la cual ofreceré más información a su debido tiempo).
