02.25 Mountains in the Tyrol

A landscape painting in oils on board, dating from the early twentieth century by an unknown artist.  Framed and unsigned. 29 cm wide by 39 cm high.  

This picture was bought from Julie Collino in January 2002.  She and Jane managed to convince themselves that this is a study in impressionistic style done by John Singer Sergeant (1856 to 1925).  He of course is best known as a portrait painter, but he certainly travelled and painted in the Tyrol, and was associated with many of the impressionists of his period. Who knows?  When it comes to unattributed works of art, everyone is entitled to their flights of fancy!

Un paisaje pintado al óleo sobre tabla, de principios del siglo XX, de autor desconocido. Enmarcado y sin firmar. Mide 29 cm de ancho por 39 cm de alto. 

Este cuadro fue comprado a Julie Collino en enero de 2002. Ella y Jane lograron convencerse de que se trata de un estudio en estilo impresionista realizado por John Singer Sergeant (1856 a 1925). Por supuesto, es más conocido como retratista, pero ciertamente viajó y pintó en el Tirol, y estuvo asociado con muchos de los impresionistas de su época. ¿Quién sabe? Cuando se trata de obras de arte no atribuidas, ¡todo el mundo tiene derecho a sus fantasías!
