92.08 Rachel and child

Oil painting on board by Michael Sofroniou (b. 1957).  Framed  38 cm. high by 39 c. wide. 

These three paintings by Michael Sofroniou of his wife Rachel date from the same period as the two landscapes (91.02 and 93.07) already reported on, and we bought them from the artist in 1992. I have a note from him about his work:- “My work is usually based on direct observation. I either work immediately in front of a subject or work from drawings and studies done on the spot. Colour, shape and pattern arise as a visual interpretation of the subject. A painting may be worked or re-worked to incorporate changes of mood, light and atmosphere until the piece takes on its own life, or it may be produced in a single session as an immediate response to a moment in time.”

(92.08). Enmarcado. Mide 38 cm de alto por 39 cm de ancho. 

Estas tres pinturas de Michael Sofroniou, de su esposa Rachel, datan del mismo período que los dos paisajes (91.02 y 93.07) ya informados, y los compramos al artista en 1992. Tengo una nota suya sobre su obra: “Mi trabajo se basa generalmente en la observación directa. Trabajo directamente frente a un tema o lo hago a partir de dibujos y estudios realizados en el lugar. El color, la forma y el patrón surgen como una interpretación visual del tema. Una pintura puede ser trabajada o reelaborada para incorporar cambios de humor, luz y atmósfera hasta que la pieza adquiera su propia vida, o puede hacerse en una sola sesión como una respuesta inmediata a un momento en el tiempo".
